MDI MINI-IMPLANT SYSTEM FOR DENTURE STABILISATION

Having problems with your dentures?

Unable to eat what you want?

Dentures shift, tilt and wander?

Tired of the taste and feel of messy denture adhesives?

Gums sore from food getting under your denture? Trouble speaking and fearful of smiling?

Then the MDI mini-implant system is for you!!

The MDI system was developed in order to provide greater denture stability for those patients you cannot withstand the rigors of conventional implant surgery or do not have enough bone for conventional implant placement.

What are MDI mini-implants?

Mini Dental Implants, also known as MDI, are ultra-small biocompatible titanium alloy implant screws which can be used to stabilise upper and/or lower dentures.

The head of the implant is shaped like a ball and the retaining fixture placed within a denture acts as a socket which contains an rubber O-ring.  The O-ring snaps over the ball when the denture is seated and holds the denture with a predetermined level of force.  When seated the denture gently rests on the gum tissues.  The implant fixtures allow for micro-mobility while withstanding natural lifting forces.

HOW ARE THE IMPLANTS PLACED?

Placement of the implants is accomplished quickly and easily in our clinic with local anaesthesia.  Using a precise, controlled, minimally invasive surgical technique the implants are placed into the jawbone.  The heads of the implants protrude from the gum tissue and provide a strong solid foundation for securing your dentures.

The MDI protocol requires a minimum of 4 mini-implants to secure a lower denture and a minimum of 6 mini-implants to secure an upper denture.

Initially, the denture will be partially anchored to the denture and after several months the implants will have integrated with your jawbone the denture is fitted with the more secure permanent attachments.

Prior to the actual treatment being performed, an assessment of your suitability for this procedure must be carried out using a panoramic X-Ray (OPG) and a Lateral Cephalogram.  The cost of these films are covered by Medicare as our local radiology laboratory bulk-bills.

Please note that the cost of the denture is a separate item - in a majority of cases if your existing denture is of good quality then this denture may be used to attach to the mini-implants.  Otherwise a new denture may need to be constructed.
